Literature review workshop In-Person
Place: You will get an outlook invitation with room number before the course
A well-planned and transparent approach to conducting literature reviews is vital for researchers and PhD students. A well-crafted literature review is the cornerstone of any research project, providing the foundation upon which academic work is built.
This literature review workshop is tailored to assist participants in getting started with your literature review, equipping you with the basic skills required to perform methodical and insightful reviews. You will be introduced to various types of literature reviews, learn review techniques, learn to structure a review workflow, and explore academic databases.
Learning objectives
- Gain knowledge about different types of reviews.
- Develop a protocol to enhance the quality of your review.
- Utilize Zotero for review techniques and review workflow.
- Develop a PRISMA flowchart that documents your methodology, sources, findings, and challenges.
- Reflect on scope, databases and selection in relation to your review.
Form, assignment and duration
The workshop spans 3 hours and combines presentations with hands-on exercises. During the exercises, we encourage you to work with your own research materials.
Expect 6 hours preparation for reading and preparing a literature search log i.e., a search string and sufficient (but not too much) literature for a review. You will recieve an email one week prior to the workshop with a reading list. After the course participants are encouraged to hand in a draft version of their review flowchart as well as a document describing their review plans for feedback from the course coordinators. Expect 5 hours work after the workshop.
ECTS
1/2 ECTS will be granted if the course is completed with the handing in of the assignment.
Target group
This workshop is designed for researchers and PhD students who seek to enhance their literature review skills. To facilitate interactive learning, the workshop is limited to a maximum of 12 participants.
Requirements
It is a requirement for the participants in the literature review workshop to have acquired skills in literature search and Zotero equivalent to the two EAE courses Systematic Literature Search and Build your Personal Library with Zotero. Before the course you should have created search strings and drafted a search strategy.
Teaching language
The default language of instruction is English; however, the workshop can be conducted in Danish if all participants prefer. Group work can be carried out in both English and Danish, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive learning environment.
