Using generative AI in your course teaching - from cheating to learning In-Person
Place: You will get an outlook invitation with room number before the course
Are you considering to meaningfully integrating the use of generative AI models (GAI) in your course teaching? GAI is a branch of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as text, images, or speech. The discussions around GAI in education has primarily focused on cheating. This workshop tries to give examples of shifting the focus from cheating to learning, by posing the question: How can teachers at RUC use generative AI in their course teaching in a responsible and meaningful way? GAI has many potential applications in education, such as generating feedback, questions, summaries, or explanations. However, it also poses some ethical and pedagogical challenges, such as plagiarism, quality, bias, or authenticity.
This workshop is in three parts:
- The basics of generative AI in teaching and learning, i.e. 1 hour preparation with access to online resources
- Hands-on case examples of integrating generative AI in teaching and learning:
a. Designing question-answer activities with GAI, e.g. working with multiple-choice quizzes to facilitate interaction in lecture-based classes
b. Working with your students’ AI literacy e.g. fostering a good academic practice with AI in the classroom
c. Framing student assignments with a focus on the process of writing, e.g. working with longer drafts and annotated drafts - Designing and integrating your own learning activities with generative AI
In the workshop you will explore some examples of generative AI models and how they can be used for different educational purposes. You will discuss the benefits and risks of using generative AI in your teaching and how to address them. You will get hands-on experience with using some generative AI models and designing learning activities with these tools.
Learning objectives:
Upon completion of the workshop it is intended that participants will be able to:
- Identify some generative AI tools and how they can be used for education
- Recognise the pedagogical, ethical and academic integrity issues of using generative AI in your teaching
- Design learning activities that use generative AI in a responsible and learning focused way
Form and duration:
3 hours workshop and 1 hour preparation. The preparation is only for those who need a basic introduction to generative AI in teaching and learning.
Estimated time spent:
3-4 hours
Target group:
All employees with teaching assignments at RUC are welcome.
Teaching language:
By default, the course is in English. However, it can be held in Danish if so wished by all participants. Group work can be in both English and Danish.
Different workshops on AI:
EAE offers a range of different workshops on AI in teaching, supervision and assessment.
The current AI workshop series from EAE is comprised of:
• Generative AI in project supervision
• Generative AI in course teaching
• Practical strategies for take-home exams in the time of generative AI
• Experimenting hands-on with generative AI tools and prompting
You can sign up for each workshop through the EAE course catalog.
Place: You will get an outlook invitation with room number before the course
Ad hoc:
EAE also offers ad hoc-activities and individual consultation within this topic. We encourage individuals or groups of employees/Heads of studies and departments to contact us.
